Sony Introduces Three New E-mount Lenses, a New NEX Lens Mount Adapter, and More!

Alongside their jaw dropping camera announcements early this morning, Sony also introduced three new E-mount lenses, an all new NEX lens mount adapter, an OLED viewfinder for NEX cameras, a new Alpha series lens, and a new vertical grip for the SLT-A77.

The three E-mount lenses include a Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* E 24mmF1.8 ZA (SEL24F18Z), a fast E 50mm F1.8 OSS (SEL50F18), and the long anticipated E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS (SEL55210) telephoto zoom lens. The addition of these new lenses really broadens Sony's E-mount offerings, providing photogs with high-quality glass for almost any shooting situation. If your needs extend beyond the E-mount offerings, Sony has introduced an amazing new lens mount adapter, the LA-EA2, which allows you to use any Sony or Minolta A-bayonet mount lens with your NEX camera. Unlike the LA-EA1, the LA-EA2 incorporates Sony's Translucent-Mirror technology (aka TMT) to give you access to a fast phase-detection AF system (15-point) that is built into the lens adapter. Lastly, Sony has announced a new OLED "Tru-finder" EVF for NEX series models (similar to the unit found on the NEX-7), which boasts 2.5 million dots of resolution, giving you a crisp image with beautiful color reproduction. This unit is designed for use with the NEX-3, NEX-5, NEX-C3 and NEX-5N.

Pricing and availability of these E-mount accessories is as follows:
  • E-mount Telephoto zoom E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS (SEL55210) - October 2011, $350 US
  • Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* E 24mm F1.8 ZA (SEL24F18Z) - December 2011, $1000 US
  • E 50mm F1.8 OSS (SEL50F18) - December 2011, $300 US
  • LA-EA2 Lens mount adapter - $400 US
  • FDA-EV1S OLED viewfinder - $350 US

To accompany the powerful A77, Sony has launched three accessories made specifically for use with the A77. First we have the DT 16-50mm F/2.8 SSM zoom lens, which is not only extremely bright at all focal lengths thanks to its constant F/2.8 maximum aperture, but it boasts some high-quality optics including aspherical glass and three ED (Extra Low Dispersion) elements. It also includes Sony's Super Sonic wave Motor, which allows for fast and quite autofocus. The SAL1650 will be offered in a kit configuration with the SLT-A77 for $2000 US, or you can purchase the lens by itself for $700 US.

Next we have the VG-C77AM vertical grip for the A77, which gives you better grip real estate for vertical shooting (Portraits, etc.), as well a double the batter life with the ability to hold two batteries. Couple this with the recently announced HVL-F43AM external flash unit, and you have one awesome setup for a wide variety of shooting events; such as portraits, wedding photos, etc. Both the VG-C77AM and HVL-F43AM flash units offer the same dust and weather sealing found on the A77, making this one tough system for shooting in some of the most demanding environments. The VG-C77AM vertical grip will retail for about $300 US, while the HVL-F43AM external flash can be found for $350 or less.
