Sony has detailed the latest addition to its lineup of G Master series full-frame E-mount lenses. The new 135mm F1.8 lens (SEL135F18GM) is set to start shipping in late April for an MSRP of $1900.  Pre-orders are scheduled to launch at 10am ET on February 28.

"Sony's commitment to growing our lens lineup remains stronger than ever," said Neal Manowitz, vice president of imaging solutions at Sony Electronics.  "Our 31st native full-frame FE lens and 49th overall E-mount lens, the highly anticipated 135mm prime brings the acclaimed G Master quality to another popular focal length for both professionals and enthusiasts to enjoy. We will continue to drive market-leading innovation in all aspects of our imaging business, giving our customers the opportunity to capture and create like they never have before."

The SEL135F18GM is a 135mm F1.8 full-frame, large-aperture telephoto prime lens designed for high image performance. The device features an optical design with XA (extreme aspherical) and Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements in the front group, helping to minimize telephoto lens aberrations. Likewise, the Super ED element and one ED glass element are specifically arranged to help maintain the best quality and resolution while reducing axial chromatic aberration and color fringing. In addition, the lens makes use of its XA element and an 11-bladed circular aperture mechanism to provide pleasing bokeh.

Meanwhile, the unit also offers fast AF performance via four of Sony's proprietary XD linear motors. And rounding out the lens' key features are an array of professional controls, including an aperture ring for direct aperture control, a focus ring with Linear Response MF for manual focus control, a focus range limiter switch, two customizable focus hold buttons, and a focus-mode switch.
