Sony announces new Action Cam and two "Lens-style" digicamsSony has just unveiled three interesting new digicams, the Action Cam HDR-AS30V and two new Cyber-Shot "Len-style" cameras; the DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100.
The HDR-AS30V Action Cam builds on the success of their HDR-AS15 and HDR-AS10 from last year, with some appealing new upgrades. For starters, the AS30V is 25% smaller and 35% lighter than its predecessors; something many aerial quadcopter cinematographers will appreciate. While resolution has dropped from 16 to 11.9-megapixels for still images, the AS30V's new Exmor R CMOS image sensor boasts BSI (back side illuminated) technology. Next up are two very unique digital cameras, the Cyber-Shot Lens-Style DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100. The first in a new line of QX-series cameras, the QX10 and QX100 are a complete camera that is built into what looks like a lens for an ILC or Alpha dSLR. You have a powered zoom lens, image sensor, and a few controls on the barrel, however no viewfinder. That's where your iOS or Android powered smartphone comes into play. These QX-series cameras are designed to clip to your smartphone, and using their free PlayMemories Mobile app, you can connect your phone to the camera wirelessly; allowing you to use your phone as a live viewfinder. Both QX models are Wi-Fi and NFC compatible. While both are impressive, the QX100 is the premium model, sporting a 1-inch type 20.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS image sensor and Carl Zeiss zoom lens.
