Sony Firmware Update for DSLR-A700

Today, Sony has made available a new firmware update (v4) for α700 DSLR cameras. Also available is an update for α (alpha) application software, Sony Image Data Suite, which includes updates to the supplied Image Data Converter, Image Data Lightbox, and Remote Camera Control applications.

The firmware update for α700 includes two functions requested by members of this and other forums, and we’re happy to make them available. An extension of EV bracketing makes ±2.0EV increments available for 3 shots to support HDR layering. A selection for high sensitivity noise reduction “Off” has been added, removing NR processing from both RAW and JPEG files. The update also incorporates other changes, including improvements to high ISO picture quality, Auto white balance, Dynamic Range Optimizer, and communication between VG-C70AM vertical grip and the camera.

The updates for Image Data Suite improve ease of use and processing speed to benefit all Image Data Converter/Lightbox users, while updates to the Remote Camera Control application are specific to α700.

These updates will be available on Sony’s eSupport website on Sep 16th. To access the update, enter your model number, and navigate to the model home page. Select “camera Firmware and Software updates”, and follow the directions.
