Sony Announces FE 35mm F1.8 Lightweight Prime E-Mount Lens

Sony has revealed its newest E-Mount lens model, the FE 35mm F1.8 (model SEL35F18F). Pre-orders are set to launch on July 11 at 11am ET for $748.

"Our E-mount lens lineup now includes 34 full-frame models and 52 lenses in total," said Neal Manowitz, deputy president of Imaging Products and Solutions Americas at Sony Electronics. "The new 35mm prime combines outstanding corner-to-corner sharpness with a compact design, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of shooters. Sony will continue to develop and expand its imaging lineup, giving creators more options than ever before to realize their vision."

The FE 35mm F1.8 is a wide-angle prime lens with a compact and lightweight design geared toward everyday pictures, food images, landscapes, nighttime photography, and more. The unit's optical construction features an aspherical element to help reduce aberrations and ensure high resolution across the entire frame. Likewise, the lens uses a 9-blade circular aperture for pleasing bokeh.

In addition, a linear-motor AF drive system is employed as well for quiet and precise auto focus performance, making it a great fit for stills and video. Meanwhile, Linear Response Manual Focus is also supported. Finally, the device offers a minimum focus distance of 0.22m and maximum magnification of 0.24x for close-up photography.
