Sony Announces DCR-PC100 Digital Camcorder, First To Offer Megapixel-Size Still Images

PARK RIDGE, N.J., Aug. 23 -- Sony Electronics announced today the compact DCR-PC100 mini Digital Video Handycam® camcorder -- the first camcorder with mega-pixel digital still and video imaging capabilities. This new digital Handycam camcorder combines best-in-class digital video, capable of delivering up to 520 lines of resolution, with digital still mega- pixel resolution, and Memory Stick(TM) removable storage, in a unit about the size of a Walkman® personal stereo.

Unlike any other consumer video camera on the market, the DCR-PC100 has the ability to capture still images at 1152 x 864 pixels -- more than three times the resolution of other digital video camcorders.

The DCR-PC100 is small and lightweight at just 2-1/2" x 5" x 4-7/8" and 1 pound, 3 oz. Its vertical design fits comfortably in users' hands making it easy to hold and to take anywhere. It also delivers Sony Worry- Free(TM) features including: InfoLithium® battery and AccuPower(TM) system, NightShot(TM) infrared system, LaserLink® wireless transmission system, Steadyshot® picture stabilization, i.LINK® DV interface and more.

The DCR-PC100 also has superior digital video quality with Advanced "HAD" CCD technology (1/4" CCD) that incorporates the technology used in broadcast equipment. The mega-pixel imager combined with the Carl Zeiss® (Vaio-Sonner) precision lens system offers a sharper, brighter picture that is capable of delivering up to 520 lines of resolution. Also, a 10x optical/120x digital zoom lets users record the action up close.
