Sony Announces Affordable DSC-S500

Sony has announced the new Cyber-shot DSC-S500 digital camera to be available around August 4 at sonystyle.com for US.95. This compact and affordable 6-megapixel digital camera is a perfect choice for first-time digital photographers. The DSC-S500 features a 3X optical zoom, 25 MB of internal memory expandable with Memory Stick Duo cards and a large 2.4-inch LCD monitor.

Sony claims the DSC-S500 can capture up to 60 shots with a pair of alkaline AA batteries and up to 350 shots with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Its burst mode can record three frames at 2-second intervals in 6MP quality. Movie mode is limited to QVGA (320x240 pixels) at up to 30 frames per second. Exposure is automatic with scene modes for Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Soft Snap, Candlelight, and Beach.
