Sigma has announced pricing and availability for its latest camera lens. The upcoming 70-200mm F2.8 DG OS HSM Sports Lens is set to start shipping later this month for an MSRP of $1,499. Pre-orders are now available Canon EF, Nikon F, and Sigma SA mounts.

"There are three lenses a working professional photographer always wants in his or her camera bag - a wide zoom, a medium zoom and a telephoto zoom," said Jim Koepnick, a leading aviation photographer and a Sigma Pro. "All of professional quality and F2.8 brightness. We call it the must-have trio. With those three lenses you can handle just about any job a client throws at you. The trio in my camera bag has just been updated in a most professional way. I've just added the new Sigma 70-200 F2.8 Sport lens. For my type of photography, which includes action, commercial and photojournalism, this lens will get the majority of my use. Putting it to work the last few days, the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 Sport lens delivered in every case with professional caliber results."

The flagship large-aperture telephoto zoom lens features 9 FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) glass elements and 1 SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element, along with 11 rounded diaphragm blades and optimizing spherical aberration for bokeh effects. And beyond the optical design, the unit also uses an Intelligent Optical Stabilizer system with an acceleration sensor, high-speed AF, and integrated HSM, helping to reduce the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld capture.

Here's a full rundown of specs per Sigma and B&H:

  • Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/22
