Samsung Galaxy A9 is the First Smartphone With Four Cameras

I feel like smartphones are becoming like 90s shaving razor blades. One blade became two, two became three and so on and so on.

Today, Samsung gives us the Galaxy A9, a moderately priced smartphone with four cameras. Unlike the reasons for more blades, which were purely financial, the reason for more cameras is more about function and practicality. There's no room on the back of a traditional smartphone for a camera lens found on 35MM equivalent camera. So, it takes a combination of lenses and technology to get anywhere near the quality a big boy lens can achieve.

Samsung is hoping to close the gap and bring better images to smartphones by incorporating four lenses on the back of the A9.

The cameras are:

  • Ultra Wide Camera
    • 8MP, F2.4, 120° field of view
  • Telephoto Camera
    • 10MP, F2.4, 2x Optical Zoom
  • Main Camera
    • 24MP, F1.7, Clear & Bright
  • Depth Camera
    • 5MP, F2.2, Live Focus

The new Galaxy A9 is able to process all of that data from the four cameras with a powerful mobile Octa-Core processor that comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM to push through your daily tasks with ease.

Outside of the large 128GB of internal memory, the A9 is upgradable up to an additional 512GB of expandable storage through a microSD card. It has a 6.3" FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display as well as a cool new 'Always on Display' that can show whatever info you want it to, calendar, Clock, notifications, weather etc.

The phone has a standard 3,800 mAh battery, but it has quick charge capabilities through its USB type C port to give you a boost of power in as little as 15 minutes.
