Samsung Digital Imaging Merges into Samsung Electronics

If you blinked, you may have missed the existence of Samsung Digital Imaging.  It spun off of the parent company just over a year ago, but it's already been picked up by Samsung Electronics.  Board approval for the merger was almost unanimous.

The goal of the merger is to make Samsung's digital camera business better and more efficient, and "to maximize synergy between businesses."  The loss of a specialized division is a bit of a bummer, but the potential here is pretty great.

As it stands, there are a ton of ways that Samsung can benefit by a bit of communication between their camera business and the rest of their electronics branches.  Integrating technologies, like the Samsung Ice Touch's impressive transparent OLED screen for example, into the digital camera market could be huge.
