Report On The Japanese Nikon 900 Firmware Upgrade

I received the following information from TsuruZoh Tachibanaya, the author of the popular CAME program:

"It seems the most Nikon users don't know why Nikon haven't started the firmware upgrade service. I'd like to send you a current status of what is happening in Japan to relieve some of their irritations (or maybe they'll be more irritated by this information? I don't know...)"

Nov.13: Nikon corporation (Japan) announced E900 firmware upgrade service

Nov.24: Firmware upgrade started in Japan

Early Dec.?: First bug found with upgraded firmware
details: when using larger than 20MB CF card and the battery level is low or critical (by the upper LCD control panel, battery icon is half or blinking), sometimes the E900 won't startup

Mid Dec.?: First bug was fixed

Jan.23: Second bug found with upgraded firmware
details: when zoom switch is operated at M-REC mode and the LCD is off, "Number of exposures remaining" goes to ZERO and it won't let you shoot any pictures.

It seems that the second bug is not fixed yet, maybe this is why the firmware upgrade outside of Japan is still being delayed."
