Red Announces a Monochrome Movie Camera

RED-Monochrome.jpgLeica isn't the only company with an interest in high-end monochrome cameras.  The folks at Red - well known as being at the forefront of digital video technology - have announced that their new monochrome camera, the Epic-M Monochrome, will be available on October 1st.

As you might expect, the sacrifice of color leads to a few nice tradeoffs.  You'll find higher effective resolution, better low light handling, and a free upgrade to the Dragon sensor when it hits next year.

You'll be able to pick one of these up, if you're so inclined, for $42,000 on October 1st.  Red says that David Fincher - director of 'Fight Club,' 'Seven,' and that really good Aerosmith music video for Janie's Got a Gun - is already using one for an upcoming feature film.
