Today we posted a trio of Sony Cyber-shot "T" series camera reviews and quite frankly I am still confused as to why Sony would want to be its own marketing competitor. All three are 5-megapixels with an internal Zeiss 3x optical zoom and a large 2.5-inch color LCD - oh yes, all three are also super-slim and very pocketable - the trademark of the "T" series. See the last paragraph of any of these review conclusions, that's where we really point out the differences between them. To steal a phrase from Monty Python - and now for something completely different:we have the Samsung SC-D6040 DuoCam, a true hybrid device that combines a MiniDV video camcorder and a 4-megapixel digital still camera in one. Unlike other camcorders that shoot video and capture stills, the SC-D6040 actually has a dedicated imager, lens and electronics for each task. This review is already a bit "old" as the SC-D6040 has now been replaced by the newer SC-D6550 DuoCam which is smaller and incorporates a higher resolution 5-megapixel digicam. The good news is that you can find some really good bargains on the SC-D6040 at places like eBay.
And last but certainly not least, we have Konica Minolta's super-slim new DiMAGE X1 with an 8-megapixel imager, an internal 3x zoom lens and a large 2.5-inch color LCD. Thin is definitely the "in" thing this year, all the major players are marketing similar looking cameras with internal zooms and really big LCD displays. For the time being, Konica Minolta has the lead in image resolution at a whopping eight megapixels.
