Infrared photography can create some incredibly cool effects, like the classic Elliot Landy photo of Bob Dylan against the backdrop of what looks like a red forest. It's a great way to get a unique look to your photographs, but most cameras aren't equipped to handle it right out of the box.

If you've got the time and the know-how, you can alter your existing camera to take infrared pictures, but it's not exactly a newbie-friendly task. If you don't have a lot of experience working inside of a camera though, you may be better off buying a camera that's already been converted.
