Pentax Enters the EVIL/ILC Market with Their New Q Camera System

pentax_Q_colors_550.jpgThat's right, yet another manufacturer has joined the "EVIL" (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens) or "ILC" (Interchangeable Lens Camera) race, with the all new Pentax Q. What they are claiming is the "world's smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera (ILC)", the Pentax Q is a petite, yet powerful camera that boasts some impressive specifications. First off, the unit uses a 12.4-megapixel, 1/2.3" backlit CMOS image sensor, which is quite a bit smaller than the Micro Four Thirds and APS-C sensors found in other EVIL cameras. However, this helps Pentax keep the Q extremely compact. Other important features include full 1080p (30fps) video recording, new Q-mount lens system, Dust and Shake reduction systems built into the body, a 3.0-inch LCD, and various exposure options.

On top of the Q announcement, Pentax also unveiled five new Q-mount lenses. There are two standard kit lenses that will be packaged with the Q (separately), a 47mm F/1.9 Prime or a 27.5-83mm zoom lens. The other three lenses include a Fish-eye, and two "Toy Lenses"; a 35mm wide angle and 100mm telephoto (all focal lengths are in 35mm equivalence).

Check out our Pentax Q preview for more details; which we will update once we get a Q in house for some hands on tests.
