Panasonic Reveals New Teleconverters for LUMIX S Series Telephoto Zoom Lenses

Panasonic has detailed two new teleconverters designed for use with the company's LUMIX S Series telephoto zoom lenses. The lineup includes the DMW-STC14 and DMW-STC20.

The DMW-STC14 is a 1.4x Teleconverter with a lens composition of 7 lenses, including 2 UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index Lens) lenses, in 4 groups. Meanwhile, the DMW-STC20 is a 2x Teleconverter with a lens composition of 8 lenses, including 2 UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index Lens) lenses, in 4 groups.

Both teleconverters will be compatible with the LUMIX S PRO 70-200mm F4 O.I.S. (S-R70200), allowing the device to become a super telephoto lens with a maximum extended zoom range of 400mm, along with high-speed and high-precision AF and a dust/splash-resistant design. Likewise, the teleconverters will also support Panasonic's upcoming 70-200mm / F2.8 S Series lens when it launches later this year.

In terms of light loss, the 1.4x teleconverter loses one full stop, while the 2x teleconverter loses two stops.

The DMW-STC14 and DMW-STC20 Teleconverters will be available in June (2019) for $499 and $599, respectively. Meanwhile, the Panasonic LUMIX S PRO 70-200mm f/4 O.I.S. Lens is currently available for $1697.99 (so that's roughly $2200 to get a 98-280mm setup or a $2300 to get a 140-400mm setup for your S1 or S1R).
