Olympus Details Tough TG-6 Rugged Compact Digital Camera

Olympus has announced the launch of its newest Tough series compact digital camera model, the TG-6. The device is now available for pre-order in Black or Red via B&H Photo-Video for an MSRP of $449.99. Shipments are expected to begin in late June.

Geared toward outdoor and underwater shooting, the TG-6 features a rugged construction with a waterproof (depth of 50 feet), dustproof, shockproof (to 7 feet), crushproof (to 100 kg), and freezeproof (to 14ºF) design. Likewise, the camera also integrates a dual-pane protective glass for anti-fogging. When it comes to optics, the device uses a wide-angle f/2.0 zoom lens, a back-lit high-speed 12MP BSI CMOS sensor, and TruePic VIII image processor with support for RAW capture, 4K video recording, and Full HD 120 fps.

In addition, the TG-6 features a Variable Macro System to enable ultra-close-up photography (up to 1cm from the front of the lens). Five underwater shooting modes and three underwater white balance modes are included as well, optimizing capture for different situations. Meanwhile, a 3.0" 1.04m-Dot LCD Monitor is integrated on the rear side. Finally, a variety of additional accessories are also available, including a fisheye converter lens.
