Olympus adds six new digital cameras to their ranks

On the eve of CES 2013, Olympus has introduced six new digital cameras, which fill two categories; Lifeproof and Super-zoom.

The first three models are the TG-2 iHS, TG-830 iHS, and TG-630 iHS. These models build on their proven Tough series of waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, and freezeproof digicams; what we here at Steve's call Lifeproof cameras. Designed to go anywhere, these models offer ruggedness that most digicams only dream of.

Next up we have two new SZ-series models; the SZ-15 and SZ-16 iHS. These two are very similar, with only a few specifications between them. Both offer a powerful 24x optical zoom, while still being what we consider a compact camera. The main difference between these two is the SZ-16 wears the iHS label, which stands for intelligent, High-Sensitivity and High-Speed.

Lastly, we have the SH-50 iHS. This is the first in a new series of "premium, long zoom" cameras, which borrow many features from Olympus' powerful Micro Four Thirds cameras. This camera is compact, stylish, and powerful; with a 24x optical zoom lens packed into its retro looking exterior. Looking at the photos, you can see some distinct design characteristics that were borrowed from their Digital PEN and OM-D lines.
