No Flash Gel Handy? Use Fruit Roll-Ups
A photographer named John B. Crane was ice climbing in Rocky Mountain National Park last week when he happened upon a perfect opportunity for photography. "There was a nice little cave carved out," he writes on the Outdoor Photo Blog, "full of tiny wonders. Between climbing we were in there geeking out shooting pics and I was trying to get the right mood on the ceiling of the cave."
It was then that Crane realized that packing light means that he had to leave some things behind, including his gels. "That's when it happened; the flash of synergistic genius fired," says Crane. He rooted through the food bag, found a blue/green Fruit-Roll Up and molded it to the head of the flash.
