Nikon's New Patent - A Flash Ring Attachment for Point-And-Shoot Cameras

A Nikon patent filing has just been revealed and we're pretty excited about what that patent reveals. Nikon is apparently working on a ring flash attachment for compact cameras that fits around the lens and uses light from the flash that's already built right in to the camera.

The flash attaches to the camera by a special mount that comes built in to the camera, so this isn't the kind of thing you'll be able to attach to any old point-and-shoot. If put into production this will be a specific accessory for a specific camera, or for a line of cameras.

Of course, just because a patent has been filed doesn't mean we'll actually see this idea put into production, but we'd love to see a nice, easy way to equip your compact camera with some better lighting for macro photography.
