Nikon Reaches the 60 Million Lens Mark

Nikon announced yesterday that they've hit an impressive milestone. As of April 5th (2011), over 60 million Nikkor lenses have been produced. That's a huge accomplishment and you better believe that they're excited about it.

What's remarkable is how quickly that number is growing. Nikon made its first Nikkor lens back in 1959 and the company began producing more lenses every year. In August of 2010, over 55 million lenses had been made. Now, less than a year later, the company has pumped out five million more.

If the company keeps up this pace of five million lenses every eight months, we're looking at just over five years before they hit the big 100 million mark.
