Nikon Cameras are Heading to Space

A number of Nikon products have been ordered for use on the International Space Station (ISS) and Nikon couldn't be more thrilled.  What might be the coolest part of it all is that these cameras won't be changed or modified in anyway - the astronauts will be using the same stuff as earthbound consumers.

The two cameras ordered were the D3S and D3X.  They'll be heading up there with an assortment of lenses and accessories.  You'll find the full list of gear below.

Nikolay Cherlenyak, who directs operations for Russia's side of the program, says that they went with Nikon based on a trusted history.  "The integration of Nikon photographic equipment in space exploration has a long history," he says.  "[It] goes back to the moment when there first arose the question of photographing research conducted in orbit."
