New DPS8000 2700mAH NiMH Battery Pack

Our good friends at Thomas-Distributing just sent me a sample of their new Mizco DigiPower DPS-8000 NiMH rechargable battery pack for digicams. Roughly the size of a beeper (2 x 3 x 3/4 in.) and weighing just 5.5oz, it comes with a swiveling belt clip and a durable carrying case. The DPS-8000 contains 2700mAH worth of 4.8v NiMH cells and sells for only .90. You'll also need a power cord for another .90, there are four different power cords available to fit just about every camera.

Initial charging takes eight hours, after that you can just plug it in whenever you want to "top off" the charge. Being that it's a NiMH (nickel metal hydride) battery pack, it can charged whenever desired without the memory effect common to the older NiCd type of batteries. With a fully charged DPS-8000 you can take about 1200 pictures with most digicams. Of course it all depends on how often you use the LCD, how much zooming you do, etc, etc, etc -- but, suffice it to say that it will go a LOT farther than 4 AA size batteries!
