Microsoft Launches Hyperlapse for Smooth Action Videos

Are you shooting action videos and want to merge them, smooth them out, speed them up, and end up with a single high speed video? If the answer is yes, then Microsoft has some neat new software that you may want to look at.

Microsoft has launched Hyperlapse, a product using new technology that can create smooth and stabilized time lapses from your videos.

It's designed so that users capture video and select a time lapse speed, resulting in a time lapse video with an apparently smoothly moving camera. Microsoft Hyperlapse currently has the following main features:

  • Import existing video from the phone's camera roll and hyperlapse it.
  • Microsoft Hyperlapse Mobile supports hyperlapsing a video multiple times, at different speed rates, from 1x to 32x.
  • Create selfie time lapses.
  • Simple and intuitive user interface makes you an expert in seconds.

Hyperlapse Mobile is currently in beta for Android devices running Android 4.4 or higher (KitKat and Lollipop). and currently runs on these devices (with more to follow according to Microsoft):

  • Samsung Galaxy S5, S6, S6 Edge, Note 4
  • Google Nexus 5 & 6, Nexus 9 tablet
  • HTC One M8 and M9
  • Sony Xperia Z3

A version is also available for Windows Phone 8.1 (Windows Phone 8.0 is not supported), and works on the following devices (note that more than 512MB of RAM is required for HD Video):

  • Lumia 435, 530, 532, 535, 630, 635, 636, 638, 640, 640 XL, 730, 735, 830, 930, 1520
  • HTC One M8

Microsoft has also launched a Hyperlapse Pro Preview Version that's designed for enthusiasts and professionals who want to use a Windows desktop application to hyperlapse videos they took with a GoPro or any other device. It's available for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
