According to a NikkeiBP press release issued today, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co, Ltd of Japan, better known to North American consumers as Panasonic, has announced that they will enter the digital SLR market in 2006. Panasonic has become very popular for their Lumix line of compact digital still cameras and will launch a dSLR based on the "four thirds system" mounting standard currently being used by Olympus on their E-1 and E-300 dSLR cameras. Matsushita and Olympus will jointly develop products and the key components of these new cameras.
