Lexar Medias New Compact, Next-generation FireWire and New USB 2.0 CompactFlash Readers Now Available

New York, October 30, 2003 - (PhotoPlus Expo) Lexar Media, Inc. (Nasdaq:LEXR), a leading manufacturer and marketer of high-performance digital media and accessories, today announced two new compact, portable, high-speed CompactFlash readers geared toward serious digital photographers. The next-generation FireWire and new USB 2.0 CompactFlash readers offer data transfer speeds up to 400Mb/s and 480Mb/s, respectively.

With a USB 1.1 reader, 100MB of image data would take approximately one and a half minutes to download, but with a USB 2.0 or FireWire reader, the same amount of data would take under twenty-five seconds. FireWire and USB 2.0 are particularly fast when combined with Lexar Media's high-speed and professional memory cards.

Designed with portability in mind, each reader is approximately the size of four AA batteries and weighs only 1.5 ounces. Both readers feature a protective cap, which securely stores a CompactFlash card inside the reader when photographic equipment is in transport, and doubles as a stand when the reader is in use. This design protects the pins of the reader from external hazards including rough handling and environmental conditions. The second-generation FireWire reader ships with the new ultra thin FireWire cable.

The USB 2.0 reader is backward compatible with USB 1.1 and both readers are fully compatible with Windows200/ME/XP and Mac OS X and 9.1, with no drivers required on these modern operating systems. The FireWire (IEEE 1394a) and USB 2.0 readers are immediately available with estimated retail prices of .99 and .99, respectively. Both readers include a one-year warranty and access to Lexar Media's technical support.
