ISee3D Develops Single Lens 3D Technology
If you've been scouting out the current
crop of 3D cameras, you'll notice that they all have one thing in
common - or two things to be more accurate. They've all got a pair
of lenses to allow 3D pictures to be taken. It's a good start, but the folks at ISee3D say that a two lens solution is less than optimal. Their new method uses just one lens and simply occludes the left and right halves of the lens in sequence. This allows for perfectly matched image pairs and trouble free focus and zoom.
It's a pre-processing solution, rather than a post-processing technique like most camera makers use. As company CEO Dwight Romanica puts it, "Our single-lens process streamlines the entire process and provides the most effective way to bring real-time 3D to the present."
ISee3D says that their new tech - the first of its kind - is scalable from 1mm up to 250mm so we'll be seeing it in point-and-shoot cameras, camcorders and even cell phones before too long.
