iPhone 8 and 8 Plus Preview

Exciting news from Apple as Tim Cook and the rest of his team launched the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus smartphones. There's so much innovation going on in the new iPhone, Apple skipped the "S" variant they've issued in all previous iPhones since 2009 to get straight to the 8. According to Apple:

iPhone 8 introduces an all‑new glass design. The world's most popular camera, now even better. The smartest, most powerful chip ever in a smartphone. Wireless charging that's truly effortless. And augmented reality experiences never before possible. iPhone 8. A new generation of iPhone.

The size and appearance are almost identical to the iPhone 7, but like an "S" variant, the inside is so much more powerful. The new Apple‑designed three‑core GPU is up to 30 percent faster than A10 Fusion. That'a significant jump in a one-year-old phone.

What does this all mean for photographers? Plenty, actually. iPhone 8 features a more advanced 12MP camera. With a larger, faster sensor. A new color filter. Deeper pixels. And optical image stabilization for photos and videos. Apple is introducing a new sensor and powering it with A11 Bionic chip that makes advanced photographic techniques easy and automatic -- so everyone can shoot unbelievable photos and movies.

They even added Slow Sync flash, which combines a slow shutter speed with a short strobe pulse. It's useful in low light when you want a brighter foreground subject with a properly exposed background. And the Quad‑LED True Tone flash delivers illumination that's up to 40 percent more uniform, helping to reduce hot spots.
