HP Announces New DeskJet 882C Printer

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 1999--Hewlett-Packard Company today announced the HP DeskJet 882C printer, a premier home printer for professionals and families who need fast, brilliant photo-quality printing at an affordable price. The new printer, expected to sell for about (U.S.)(1), replaces the popular DeskJet 722C printer and extends the company's line of affordable, photo-quality DeskJet printers.

The new DeskJet 882C offers faster performance and increased versatility over its predecessor. Features include:

  • Whisper-quiet, swift speed -- at up to 8 pages per minute (ppm) in black and 5ppm in color, a 25 percent increase in color print speed over the DeskJet 722C printer. The printer provides stunning photo quality, with smooth and vibrant results on any paper;
  • Universal Serial Bus (USB) support -- offers plug-and-play functionality. The USB port allows multiple devices to run simultaneously on a single computer, increasing productivity;
  • Hand-out printing mode -- condenses up to four pages of text and images onto a single page, saving printing time and paper; and
  • Poster printing -- allows users to create large-sized prints by printing small segments of the original image onto single pages, then assembling up to 16 pages into a large-scale poster.

All DeskJet printers offer brilliant, photo-quality printing capabilities. The DeskJet 882C printer uses HP Photo Resolution Enhancement color-layering technology (PhotoREt II) to deliver photo-quality results on any paper. HP's exclusive PhotoREt II color-layering technology precisely blends tiny droplets of ink to enable users to create dazzling, photo-quality prints, without having to sacrifice speed.
