How to Spot Counterfeit Nikon Accessories

One of the really disappointing things about the photography industry is the amount of counterfeit gear that's out there. If you're buying something from eBay or a garage sale or even a less reputable retail store, you could be getting ripped off and not even know it.

Worse than getting ripped off, the use of counterfeit gear - even unintentionally - can affect your warranty and could result in severe damage to your camera.

Nikon has put up a support page designed to help you identify these counterfeit products, some of which are a lot trickier than others. The tip off could be the color of the screws, or just a difference in printing. Other products, like the EH-55, are made to look like Nikon products that don't actually exist.
