Happy New Year!

The staff here at Steve's would like to wish all of our readers a happy new year! As the joyous time of the holidays comes to an end, and we all get back to our normal weekly grinds, there's still something to be excited about; the Consumer Electronics Show. Yes, CES 2014 is almost upon us, and if 2014 is anything like 2013, we are sure to see some exciting new products for the new year. As we grow closer to the start of the show, check back often as we do our best to provide you with the latest news on digital camera and other tech announcements. We will also have our CES 2014 page live soon, which will catalog all new product releases on one page.

Looking back on 2013, we can see that the camera industry made some exciting advancements in technology. Wi-Fi and NFC tech becoming nearly a standard, with a large portion of cameras including this functionality without added accessories. With Wi-Fi, users can quickly upload photos to Facebook and other social media sites, whether via connection to their smartphone or tablet, or through built-in apps. Many manufacturers also now offer free mobile apps for iOS and Android devices, which give you extended functionality; like remote control over the camera, using your smart device as a viewfinder.

We also saw some leaps in the quality of smart phone pictures, with models like the Nokia Lumia 1020 and its 41-megapixel image sensor and Carl Zeiss lens. As smartphones continue to grow as one's means to capture day to day snapshots, we hope that the technology will follow suit and allow for even better quality and performance from these popular devices. Either way, we will be following the mobile device market closer than ever before; including many new smart phone and tablet reviews.

Here's hoping we all have a safe and prosperous 2014!
