If you use scanning software, there's a pretty good chance that you're using VueScan.  It's one of the most popular scanning programs.  It's used by over 170,000 people and has been downloaded over five million times.

The latest version of VueScan adds support for an additional eighty scanners bringing the total number up to 1,200.  It also allows older scanners to work with both Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6. Company president Ed Hamrick says that the new operating systems have been fantastic for business. "Many customers realize they don't need to buy a new scanner," he says, "[they] can use their existing scanners with VueScan."

VueScan 8.6 introduces fixes for over a hundred different problems that existed in the older version and adds sixty-five improvements and new features.  "We have many small but clearly defined features that make a world of difference for many of our customers."  Hamrick states that some features are aimed towards people who've never used a scanner before, while others are aimed at professional photographers and people who have to work with thousands of scans at a time.

Windows, Mac and Linux users can get their hands on the standard edition of VueScan for $39.95.  The professional edition adds IT8 color calibration, support for raw scan files, unlimited free upgrades and sells for $79.95.
