Giotto's New Tripod Design Keeps Things Compact

Tripods can take up a whole lot of space in your bags since even though they grow shorter, they tend to retain their bulk. The new Silk Road YTL tripod changes that up with an improvement that keeps things nice and compact. It's also one of those ideas that's painfully obvious, if only in retrospect.

The Silk Road YTL features a center post that's designed in a sort of 'Y' shape, dubbed the Y-Tube. This allows the legs of the tripod to fold all the way in, rather than sticking out and creating something that's a pain to carry. The YTL ships this month with prices starting at $160 for aluminum and $350 for carbon fiber.
