Fujifilm just announced an entry-level mirrorless camera with a retro design that could be a game changer. The new X-T00 interchangeable lens camera (ILC) from Fuji looks like a vintage 35mm camera with all the perks of a modern mirrorless. If you're thinking about upgrading from your smartphone to a small mirrorless or DSLR camera there might not be a better time in the brief history of digital photography to do so. The entry and mid-level cameras are getting smaller and cheaper while inheriting some of the great features of their big brothers. For example, the X-T100 has the same phase detection focusing that was made for the more expensive X-series cameras, and you can use all 26 native X-series lenses Fuji makes. If you have an X-T20 this would make a great second camera as it's affordable and you can use all the same accessories that you'd already have with it.

Fuji has packed a lot of features into this compact body including:

  • 24.2 MP APS-C image sensor
  • Built-in electronic viewfinder
  • Tilting rear LCD screen
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Wifi image transfer and remote technology
  • Extended Battery (up to 430 images)
  • 4K video
  • Microphone port

Not only do we have 4K video in a camera that costs less than $600 dollars, but it can also record slow motion in HD up to 60p and has a dedicated microphone port to allow you to capture the best possible sound. Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Fuji all make ILCs in this price range and some are clearly better than others. This little camera is almost like a baby X-T20 and comes packed with some fun features like11 different film simulations. Honestly, the features and capabilities of this X-T100 are equivocal to cameras that cost over $2000 just three years ago.
