Faking Video Using Still Photographs
You can probably get a feel for how the project was created just by looking at it long enough. Pieces of the picture were cut out in Photoshop, animated in Final Cut using Motion. Foreground elements were set to move fast, background elements were set to move slowly and a bit of blurring was added where needed.
The folks over at Planet 5D have a bit of a tutorial from Jeff Farmer, the creator of the video. Jeff says he's happy with what he was able to accomplish without pre-planning anything, but that some tweaking is still necessary. "Each shot required running through several trial runs before the motion felt right," he writes. "I'm still not quite happy with the time ramping of the final shot, but just haven't had time to tweak it."
