Facebook Photos are Now Eight Times Larger

It's so convenient to store all your photos on one social networking site, but Facebook hasn't made it easy for photographers to show off. After all, even your best picture looks a less impressive when it's shrunk down to fit the site's rigid photo requirements.

That's all changing thanks to a new update that increases the size of Facebook photos by eight times. The new limit for photos is that they can be up to 2048 pixels on their longest side, a huge step up from the former limit of 720.

There's also a new photo viewer featuring a light box and completely rewritten code that should speed up photo browsing significantly. If it's not showing up for you now, you'll start seeing it soon. You can find more details on the roll-out over on the Facebook Blog.
