ElcomSoft Claims Vulnerability in Nikon's Image Authentication System

ElcomSoft.jpgThe Nikon Image Authentication software was created for the express purpose of identifying photos that have been altered after shooting. It's a solution for weeding out fakes and it's used by law enforcement agencies, insurance companies and media agencies.

ElcomSoft says they've found a way around it by removing the authentication signature that the camera attaches to each picture it takes. By assigning that key to another picture, ElcomSoft was able to pass off manipulated pictures as legitimate.

The folks at ElcomSoft have also found vulnerabilities in Canon's image authentication which have not yet been addressed by Canon.

You can find more information as well as digitally manipulated images that pass the test at EclomSoft.
