Displaytech Microdisplay Solution Selected for New Olympus SP-500UZ
LONGMONT, Colo., Sept. 29, 2005 — Displaytech Inc., the world leader in liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCOS) microdisplays, today announced that its LightView™ 201k-EV2 Microdisplay Engine is featured as the electronic viewfinder (EVF) in the Olympus SP-500UZ digital camera. The SP-500UZ is the newest compact, ultra-zoom camera from Olympus, and features a 6-megapixel CCD image sensor and 10X optical zoom."Displaytech is excited to be working with Olympus and to be featured in the SP-500UZ,” stated Dick Barton, Displaytech’s CEO. "The feature set of the SP-500UZ, including our viewfinder engine, will provide outstanding performance at an attractive price point for the aspiring digital photographer."
The EV2 Engine is the world’s smallest and lowest power EVF solution available to camera manufacturers, combining the microdisplay panel, magnification optics, and mechanical housing. The included LightView™ 201k microdisplay utilizes the company’s proprietary FLC material combined with a reflective CMOS backplane to create a fast- switching, high-fill factor display without the ‘screen door effect’ and motion image smear common in competing transmissive liquid crystal display solutions. With a visual resolution equivalent to 201,600 pixels, the tiny 0.20" screen displays crisp, bright, full-color images and easily readable text while minimizing power consumption.
Displaytech, Inc. makes and sells microdisplays with superior image quality for electronic viewfinders in consumer digital still cameras, camcorders, and mobile communication devices. The low power and compact form factor of Displaytech’s LightView™ microdisplay product line enable innovative end-product design. On September 15, 2005 Displaytech shipped its 10 millionth ferroelectric liquid-crystal-on-silicon (FLCOS) display.
