Demand for Tamron's New 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD Sony E-Mount Lens Exceeds Initial Supply

Tamron's upcoming 17-28mm F/2.8 Di III RXD (Model A046) lens for Sony E-Mount cameras is proving to be very popular. So popular, in fact, that the company might not have enough initial supply to meet current pre-orders right away.

According to a recent press release, Tamron is warning customers that it could take a little longer to receive their lenses. Though the official release date remains July 26, initial stock of the product is not expected to cover the amount of pre-orders being made. Here's the full message from the company (translated from Japanese via Google):

"The new product '17-28 mm F / 2.8 Di III RXD (Model A046)', scheduled to be released on July 25, 2019, has a reservation significantly exceeding our forecast. It is predicted that the production number will not catch up with the customer's request. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to the parties concerned, including customers who are waiting for the release of the product. Delivery to some customers who have already made a reservation may be after the release date. In addition, customers who will be making reservations in the future will also be delivered one by one, so it may be time to deliver the product. We will do our best to deliver as quickly as possible, so we ask for your understanding."

Despite the potential shortage at launch, the lens remains available for pre-order via B&H Photo-Video for $899. Serving as a companion to the company's previously released and highly rated 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III RXD (Model A036), the new 17-28mm (A046) is an Ultra Wide-Angle Zoom Lens with 13 elements in 11 groups.
