Creating the Billion Dollar Airbus Photo Shoot

Think it's hard to get your kids to sit still long enough to take the annual family photograph? How about wrangling five brand new Airbus A350-900 jumbo jets to fly in close formation like their smaller fighter jet cousins.

That's just what Airbus did this September to celebrate the new aircraft's European certification. A helicopter first captured images of the taxiing jetliners. Then it was up to the chase jet to get into position as five $300 million dollar aircraft lined up for a series of formations and aeronautical maneuvers.

The results?

Equal parts beautiful, technologically impressive, and mind-numbingly expensive.
