Cloud Tidal Wave Hit The Shores of Lake Superior

A shelf cloud rolled over Lake Superior last weekend just in time for the Fourth of July with eerie parallels to movies like INDEPENDENCE DAY or CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND. Luckily for all of us, Holly Belongie Merger was there and happened to document the whole thing and post it onto her Facebook page

The whole event sounds like a scene out of a sci-fi movie as Holly describes it:

"So we just experienced the craziest thing ever. It was a sweltering 85 and muggy up here and the tide pulled out about 30 feet. In the distance it looked like a huge wave heading towards us so we decided to watch it come in. We didn't get any rain but the wind was so strong when it hit shore you could hardly breath. It lasted only about 10 minutes but I'm happy to report it's a very comfortable 65 degrees out now!"

The temperature actually dropped 20 degrees after the giant shelf cloud sucked all the moisture out of the air and replaced it with cool ocean air. Insane.

Check out this video that Molly took with her cell phone and posted to Facebook:

Good for her for standing there continuing to film. I probably would've run to my car and driven as far away as fast as I could knowing without a doubt that there was a giant alien spaceship behind that cloud.
