Chip Shop Report: Nikon D1

Thanks to one of our readers for pointing me to the EPI Centre web site and John Henshall's Chip Shop Report on the Nikon D1. It's been too long since my last visit to this fine web site, check out their camera reviews index after reading through the Nikon D1 article.

John seems to be quite taken with the D1 and has this to say:

"The D1 is already having a profound effect on the market. There may even be casualties. Sales of digital SLRs are in a state of limbo -- or is it a state of shock? -- waiting for the D1 to deliver. Kodak will not take the Nikon D1 lying down. We expect to see some real action from that quarter in the coming months. The competition will be good for everyone."

And speaking of being taken by a camera ... I currently have a Kodak DCS 620 inhouse for testing and evaluation, thanks to Kodak Professional.  I have no idea what to compare it to, it's in a class by itself but then at ,000 it should be in a class of its own!   It's based around a Nikon F5 body and shares all the same camera mechanics so needless to say it is awesome!  I'll be posting some pics in the next couple of days and it's also going to get a workout in a local pro studio too.
