Category Winners Announced for Open Competition Sony World Photography Awards

Nearly 55,000 amateur photographers submitted their work to the Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition and judges had the challenging job of whittling those down to a single winner in each category. Sony has now announced those winners and there's no question about why each was picked.

You can see each photograph on the World Photography Awards webpage, though the pictures are a bit smaller than we'd like. Still, you can see the organized chaos of the Chinese fire dragon dance, a gorgeous night sky shot from Kazakhstan, and a fantastic travel photo from the Philippeans.
