The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM is a popular lens, but it sounds like Canon didn't anticipate just how popular it would be.

According to Canon Japan, the lens has been ordered in much larger quantities than they expected, and supplies are starting to run short.  Canon says that though their stock is running low they will be able to satisfy all orders.  They just might end up coming a bit later than expected.

The 70-200mm lens is in Canon's most popular focal range, and is described as a "must have" for professional photographers.  It's also dramatically improved from the previous model.

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM features a new body structure that's not only more durable, but lighter as well.  It's got an added fluorite element and a fifth UD element for better optical performance, and it's even go improved AF speeds.

Popular online retailers are still showing stock of the lens, but if restock shipments are coming slower, you may start seeing these unavailable soon.
