Canon Unveils Their Latest Advanced Amateur dSLR: the EOS 60D

canon_eos60d_back_lcd_open2_800.jpgHot off the press, Canon has just announced their highly anticipated EOS 60D dSLR, which replaces the EOS 50D from 2008. This powerful unit is nested tightly between their EOS Rebel T2i and the EOS 7D, with several similar features and specifications. However, the 60D offers some Canon firsts in their EOS line, such as a fully articulated "Vari-Angle" 3.0-inch LCD with 1.04 million dots of resolution, in-camera editing options for both RAW and JPEG file types, even more advanced controls in movie mode like audio level control, and much more.

Key features on the 60D include:
  • APS-C sized, 18-megapixel CMOS image sensor
  • EOS Integrated Cleaning System
  • DIGIC 4 image processing unit
  • 5.3fps burst mode shooting at full resolution (up to 58 frames using Large/Fine JPEG)
  • High resolution, 3.0-inch Vari-Angle LCD with anti-reflective and smudge-resistant coatings
  • 9-point AF system with cross-type sensors (including dual cross type center AF point for wide aperture lenses)
  • In-camera editing options
  • Canon EF/EFS lens mount system
  • Record Full 1080p HD video at 24, 25 or 30p with audio
  • Built-in Mic jack for external microphones
  • SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot; Eye-Fi compatible
  • Uses Canon's LP-E6 Li-ion battery pack
  • HDMI output with optional cable
  • Optional BG-E9 Battery Grip
  • MSRP of $1099.00 US for body only kit or $1399.00 with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens.
The EOS 60D should hit dealer shelves here in the US sometime in late September. Check out our EOS 60D Preview  page for more details and to see additional product photos.
