Canon has detailed its latest digital camera model, the EOS Rebel SL3. The compact DSLR is now available for a pre-order sale price of $549 for the body only (MSRP $599), or a pre-order sale price of $649 for the body with an EF-S 18-55 f/4-5.6 IS STM lens (MSRP $749).

"Since its inception, the EOS Rebel product line has aimed to provide imaging excellence for entry-level visual storytellers," said Kazuto Ogawa, president and chief operating officer, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "Therefore, it was imperative that the next step in the EOS Rebel journey include innovative features such as 4K video and DIGIC 8 Image Processor to meet the needs of emerging photographers, while living up to the high-image quality and compact size EOS Rebel DSLRs are known for."

The EOS Rebel SL3 features a compact and lightweight design with a 24.1 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor and Canon's DIGIC 8 processor. In addition, the device offers autofocus (AF) capabilities with nine AF points across the optical viewfinder. A new Spot AF is provided as well, enabling users to focus on a specific area within the subject. Likewise, the camera includes support for Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Eye Detection AF in Live View shooting mode -- a first for an EOS DSLR model.

Meanwhile, when it comes to video, the device features UHD 4K24p recording and in-camera 4K time-lapse movie capabilities. Finally, a 3.0-inch 1.04m-Dot vari-angle LCD touchscreen and an optical pentamirror viewfinder are integrated as well.
