Canon Registers Over Two Thousand Patents in 2009
Canon has just wrapped up what they're calling a "Decade of Innovation" and it's easy to see why. In the year of 2009 alone they were granted 2,204 new patents for products and devices that they'd developed. This makes the tenth consecutive year that Canon has been in the top five corporate patent recipients.
Over the past ten years, we've seen a lot of new products coming out of the company, but perhaps more interesting is what we've haven't seen. Since 1999 Canon has been granted over twenty thousand new patents.
Among their top creations for the decade, Canon lists their digital printing presses, their radiography sensors, and The EOS 5D Mark II DSLR.
"Since our inception, Canon has put enormous emphasis on building a legacy of innovation and growth," said executive VP Seymour Leibman. "This commitment allows us to continually enhance our current products, and develop advanced new technologies."
Canon's not planning on stopping any time soon either. They've recently announced new forays into research and development along with the $640 million expansion of Canon Virginia.
