Canon Gear Most Widely Used by Photogs on Assignment in Brazil During the 2016 Olympics in Rio

Thumbnail image for Canon_1D_X_MARKII_EF50L_3Q_CL-470px.jpgCanon has just issued a press release noting that nearly 70% of professional photographers who were on assignment in Brazil during the 2016 Olympics, from August 6th through August 20th, were using Canon gear.

Yuichi Ishizuka, President and COO of Canon USA, noted "It is humbling to know that such a large number of the world's most talented sports photographers relied on Canon equipment to capture this historic sporting event."

Canon also helped several photographers who's gear was stolen while on assignment, loaning them the equipment they need to cover the events. Brett Costello, a News Corp. Australia photographer, noted that Canon's "CPS team in Brazil was amazing. I was very upset at having my gear stolen on August 4 at a café and thought my ability to cover the coming events were over. When I told the Canon staff there what had happened to me, they didn't hesitate in helping with the loan gear I required. Thanks to Canon I put the event behind me and was able to complete my assignments."

So, of all the gear Canon was loaning out, what was the most popular setup? Well, according to Canon, their EOS 1D X Mark II and the EF 200-400mm f/4 L IS USM lens were the top two requested items during the events; which makes perfect sense as they would make for a winning combination for sports photography.

All in all, it sounds like Canon had a very strong presence at the games, and we'd like to give them kudos for helping out photogs who were unfortunately robbed of their precious gear.
