Canon Announces EF-S 35mm f2.8 Macro IS STM Lens

Canon has announced a new EF-S series Marco lens for APS-C DSLRs like the EOS Rebel T7i, EOS 77D, EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 80D, etc. If you primarily shoot with a kit lens, but are interested in experimenting with Macro photographer or portraits, this might just be the perfect lens to add to your kit.

The EF-S f2.8 Macro IS STM is the widest-angle Macro EF-S lens available and is aimed at both entry-level and advanced amateurs. This 56mm equivalent lens, making it also a pretty attractive option for portraits, features an f2.8 maximum aperture, Hybrid IS (image stabilization) for up to four stops of shake correction, the STM smooth movie servo AF (autofocus) for near-silent focus changes while recording movies and, much like the M 28mm Macro, two built-in LEDs for illuminating close subjects. A first for the EF-S series, the dual Macro Lites can be operated independently or together at full or half power.

The EF-S 35mm f2.8 also features a 7-bladed circular aperture for smooth bokeh, a 1:1 magnification, full-time manual focus for tweaking your focus after AF does its job, and a 30mm lens-to-subject focal length. Please note this lens will NOT fit Canon's Full Frame DSLRs, but will work with the M series ILC cameras with an adapter. (Interestingly enough, this EF-S 35mm is quite similar to the EF-M 28mm f3.5 Macro IS STM.)
