Cameraman Keeps Shooting After Lens Smashed by Bat

Hit by Bat.jpgIt was fascinating to see the photo taken just before a photographer was hit by Tiger Woods, but TBS cameraman Steve Angel one upped that in a big way in the American League Championship series at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.

It's 2-2 at the bottom of the fourth. Derek Holland throws a fastball and Brett Gardner swings and hits. The bat breaks and sends the ball to left field while the bat - everything but the part still held by Gardner - goes flying.

The bat arcs through the air and comes down perfectly to hit the lens of the high definition camera manned by Steve Angel. From Angel's camera, you can see Alex Rodriguez running to home and then out of nowhere a large shatter appears.

Neither the camera nor the cameraman was hurt. Angel says that despite the danger, he focused on the task at hand. Angel was saved by the camera, and the camera was saved by a protective glass cover that prevented any real damage.
